Mountain Skills Online (MSO) is a structured online coaching platform delivering progressive mountain training through high-quality, professionally filmed courses. With extensive video content shot in real mountain environments — using drone, slow motion, and detailed close-up instruction — MSO breaks down complex skills into clear, logical stages that build real competence.
Our coaches bring decades of experience in trad climbing, scrambling, navigation, and mountain movement. They combine technical expertise with a genuine passion for helping climbers, scramblers, hillwalkers, and anyone who loves the mountains develop the confidence and skills to move independently and safely in mountain environments.
Each lesson is carefully designed with practical exercises and staged learning progressions, ensuring you understand not just what to do, but why it works. Members can ask questions, upload practice footage for feedback, and access ongoing support from both coaches and the wider MSO community.
As a subscriber, you gain access to all current MSO courses, plus any new courses added to the growing Mountain Skills library.
Each course explores its subject in detail, taking you from the fundamentals through to more advanced lessons.
The MSO Courses are filmed and edited to an extremely high standard so that you not only learn but enjoy watching the amazing content.
The MSO Library is continually growing and has hours and hours of lessons. All new courses are automatically added to your library.

You may find it useful to watch all of the lessons over a few evenings, then go back to the ones you feel you need to work on. Get out on the mountain to practice the exercises, receive feedback, and ask questions through the site.
Another option is to take your mobile device with you on your climb, hike, or training session, watch a video, and then immediately practice the exercise. If possible, have a climbing partner or friend take a video of you and upload it for feedback, all while keeping your device in a protective case.
You may also be booked into a guided course or taking lessons in the mountains. Use these courses and lessons to gain a greater understanding and to prepare for your on-mountain experience.
